U of M Listening Session Updates

Wednesday, May 20, 2020 - 7:30am

Session Description

On February 28, 2020, the members of the U of M listening session panel held a meeting to review the comments, suggestions, and concerns brought to our attention on January 29, 2020, U of M Listening Session.

We are in the process of collecting information that was requested by attendees of the listening session, reviewing policies and procedures, and exploring ways we can potentially improve how our communities do business with the university.

We are committed to keeping the lines of communication open and forming a collaborative bond with our suppliers and community partners. In this regard, we have already met with several of you individually and will continue to reach out to businesses and associations to better understand unique situations. Given the current COVID-19 stay-at-home directive, we intend to continue to arrange these meetings remotely through April and May.

Please continue to check the OBCED website at bced.umn.edu for updates, and, as always, do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at banks016@umn.edu if you have questions or concerns

Listening Session Update 5.18.2020

The University of Minnesota listening session panel successfully completed meetings with our stakeholders from the Association of Women Contractors, Minnesota Minority Goods and Services Association, National Association of Minority Contractors, and the Women’s Business Development Center. All of the meetings provided a plethora of information and suggestions evidenced by successful experiences with other diversity and inclusion programs.

The U of M panel will review the information we received and provide appropriate updates as we work through the suggestions and recommendations. We will continue to post updates in this space as we collaborate with our stakeholders and university decision-makers.

Listening Session Update 07.21.2020

The  U of M cross-disciplinary listening session team met with the leadership and member representatives from The National Association of Minority Contractors, Association of Women Contractors, Minnesota Minority Goods and Services Association and the Women's Business Development Council.  During the individual organization meetings, we received positive feedback, suggestions and strategies to cultivate strategic partnerships between the U of M and businesses owned by Women, Minorities, and Persons with Disabilities.

In response to the recommendations we received from these organizations, we have scheduled meetings with Medtronic, the State of Minnesota Department of Administration, and Hennepin County. We are moving into the final phase of our evaluation process and I look forward to sharing information with you as we move from analysis to action.
