CHI Student Internship Application

This application is for University of Minnesota graduate students seeking a paid summer internship with a community-based nonprofit organization or small business

Timeframe/Hours

CHI Community Internships are offered during the summer and are supervised by the host organization. 

Internships are offered as follows:

Please Note:  Although the duration of the internship is from late May to the end of August (approximately 14-15 weeks), internships can start and end anytime within this timeframe.

Qualifications

  • Students must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student at the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities Campus) in the School of Public Health, the School of Social Work, School of Medicine or Nursing School
  • Students from socially and economically disadvantaged or ethnically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply
  • Strong academic credentials (Minimum GPA of 3.0)
  • Experience with communities of color and/or nonprofit organizations

Students Who Participate

  • Gain valuable experience working with community-based nonprofit organizations or businesses serving diverse communities addressing health disparities 
  • May have the opportunity to fulfill master’s degree field experience requirements
  • Develop hands-on professional skills
  • Improve their communications and consulting skills
  • Are exposed to potential careers and new community engagement opportunities
  • Apply classroom knowledge to real-life management and operational situations
  • Must submit a Work Plan at the start and a Final Report & Evaluation at the completion of the internship
  • Will be paid an hourly wage ($18.00/hour)bi-weekly according to the University payroll schedule
